VESL (Vocational English as a Second Language)

Vocational EnglishImpact on the Organization

Many companies find that some or all of their employees need stronger proficiency in English in order to work effectively with customers and colleagues. Quest’s proven Vocational English as a Second Language training programs can help you address this issue. Before starting VESL training, Quest typically conducts a brief written and oral assessment of your students in order to determine their current level of fluency with English, as well as the amount and type of instruction they will need to achieve your goals. Depending on the number of people you need to train, the assessment can typically be conducted in two to three hours. Before beginning your training program, Quest also works with you to establish the specific job-related vocabulary that will be most important to the success of your participants.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn conversational English with job related words.
  • Build conversational ability.
  • Practice vocabulary on the job.

Program Description

Once we determine the total number of teaching hours that will be required, we typically schedule two-hour sessions twice a week for instruction. We use a conversational method, and our supporting materials are all geared towards English for employment. Your Quest instructor is fully certified and credentialed to teach English, and also has extensive experience with the workplace setting and the needs of management.

For VESL programs to succeed, participants must be committed to learning English. In our experience, the most successful programs are mandatory, conducted on company time, and reinforced by the company wherever possible. Supervisors and managers should regularly ask participants about their training experience, and encourage them to use English when conversing on the job.

Time Investment

4 hours per week on average
