Health, Safety & Environment
Impact on the Organization
Organizations today are changing their outlook on the issues
of Health, Safety and Environment.
Once a drain on the bottom line, HSE took a quiet back seat
to production, margins and speed. Today society, government,
neighborhoods, and employees are forcing the corporate demons
of the past to the fore-front ... and embracing the responsibilities
of HSE.
Health, Safety and Environment is about partnerships. It is
about roles. It is about leadership. The fuel for this enterprise,
as with most efforts of management, is Value .
Value is a diverse element of HSE. Most of the benefits are
long term. Some may erode short term profit opportunities. And
some are focused on keeping the world just the way you found
it. It's not an easy place for a "results-oriented" management
team to find value.
Learning Objectives
- Develop a definition of HSE.
- Draft and apply an HSE mission
statement.
- Recognize the alignment among the 3 essential elements
of your business.
- Explore the balance of these elements in
achieving your goals.
- Encourage others to take "leadership responsibilities," i.e.,
to think broadly, while acting like a "leader."
- Apply
learned definitions and parameters to case studies.
Program Description
The approach of this Quest exclusive module is different. It
does more than play hide-and-seek exercises to find value hidden
in costs of corporate responsibility and compliance. It is the
goal of this very unique training to establish these issues as
core components of retention, market growth and earning opportunity.
This strategy has three main components:
- How do we conduct ourselves?
- What do we want to accomplish?
- How do we lead others?
The workshop searches for existing barriers to HSE performance.
These roadblocks are usually deeply ingrained in the companies
culture. Often, the elimination of this resistance is not enough.
It does not result in a forward marching progression of corporate
response. At least not directly.
The response of most organizations is usually limited to the
Quality, Delivery and Cost wheel that squeaks the loudest. With
Quest you'll be exposed to more; case study evaluations of work-based
behaviors that contain "good judgement", and frequently
a "hidden agenda" link, too. Leading to long and short
term elements of Quality, Delivery and Cost.
This is where Value is born. This is the beginning of the transformation
of the link between HSE and management. The replacement of the
short termed variable expense of compliance and responsibility,
with the long termed opportunity where HSE is a part of the business/profit
model.
Time Investment
Typically 4 hours.
